Day to Night Makeup: How to Transform Your Makeup from Day to Night

Whether your boss commits you to a last-minute dinner with clients or your friends call for an impromptu girls’ night out, you can take your makeup from day to night in as little as 5 minutes and with minimal effort (and product).

Try one tip or combine them all to transform your look with time to spare.

Makeup Tips- From Day to Night

Lips

Adding a pop of colour to your pout is arguably the quickest and easiest way to make your daytime makeup evening ready.  Matte formulas are the longest wearing but can dry out the lips so be sure to use a primer underneath for protection.  Whether you prefer a bold pink, a classic red, or a vampy violet, be sure to use a lip liner to prevent bleeding and keep a nice defined line.

Pro Tip:  Add a bit of concealer around the lips to make them really stand out.

Eyes

If lipstick isn’t really your thing, smoking out your shadow will add drama to the eyes and make them the focus feature.  Simply pat some dark shadow onto your eyelid right above your lash line with a medium density shadow brush.  Using a fluffy blending brush, buff out the harsh line between where you applied the colour and the rest of your eyelid.  The best part about this look is that precision is not required!

Pro Tip:  A smoky eye doesn’t just have to be done with black shadow.  Look for deep browns, navy, or plum for a different take on this traditional look.

Highlight and Contour

While this concept can be frightening for some, it really needn’t be.  The Rule of Thumb? Highlight areas you want to bring forward. This means the center of a thin nose or cheekbones for example. Contour anything you want to diminish. This means the sides of a wide nose or under your chin.

Pro Tip:  Keep your highlight colour up to 3 levels lighter than your skin tone. Choose a formula with some iridescence to really catch the light.  Keep your contour up to 3 levels darker and choose a matte formula to take the focus off of those areas.
