Top 4 Beauty Trends of 2017

Beauty trends come and go but these ones are rising in popularity as we speak. Let’s take a look at what they are and what we think of them.

Beauty Trends

Microblading

With the ever growing popularity of fuller eyebrows, women are lining up for this semi permanent fix for the otherwise barely there brow.

What is it? To put it simply, it’s a tattoo. A trained technician takes a micro-blade and cuts tiny hair like slits across your brow, then rubs in an ink.

My thoughts: If you read the reviews online, this is the best thing since the flat iron, but I’m skeptical. Many of my clients have had microblading done and they all still need a little help from a brow pencil in the end. The ink fades and I worry about scar tissue. If you’re considering this, I’d wait until the dust settles and you can speak to someone who’s had it done a year ago rather then last month.

Sheet Masks

Like many beauty trends this one comes straight from Korea. If you follow any female a-lister on Instagram you have definitely seen her wearing a strange cloth mask.

What is it? A sheet mask is a cotton sheet cut to fit the shape of your face that is loaded up with a variety of serums and general skin loving goodness.

My thoughts: I love the fact that you can quickly treat your skin without the fuss and mess of a traditional mask. I also love that in general they come at a rather low price point so there really isn’t much commitment if you’re interested in trying out one.

Matte Lipstick

The Kardashian family graciously give us another beauty trend.

What is it? A matte lipstick is a colour without any shine. Kylie Jenner has famously worn a matte lip since she “didn’t” get her lips done and has since come out with her own line of lipsticks.

My thoughts: Given that it is just lipstick, I say go ahead and try this trend on for size. Kylie isn’t the only source: I’m a big fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution as well. The only down side is matte lipsticks can be drying and you might have to urge to add a little gloss over top. This would of course defeat the purpose!

Glitter

I’m as surprised as you are, glitter has made a triumphant comeback!

What is it? The what of it, I’m sure you know, the where is what is more exciting! People are literally putting glitter everywhere! Eyes, lips, highlight, down the centre of their part! Glitter bombs everywhere.

My thoughts: Get your glitter on now, because this trend won’t last. We all remember the 90’s, glitter is fun, but it’s hard to get off! I don’t see this trend lasting the year.
