Sexy Summer Hairstyles to Help You Beat the Heat

A simple snip, courageous chop or maybe a wild new colour? These four sexy hairdos are sure to help you kickstart your summer!

VIVID COLOURS

From hot pink to electric lime—this season’s hair is bright, loud and shocking! No more flirty pastels this festival season, this colour trend is FULL ON. Think childhood favourite Jem & the Holograms from the 80s or more recently, Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games!

Already on the vivid colours bandwagon are R&B superstar Alicia Keys, who was seen earlier this season on The Voice with bright pink and blue braids, and Kylie Jenner, who was spotted recently rocking a long, bright pink wig! Yellow, purple, orange, blue: no colour is off limits! It’s all about standing out and having fun in the sun!

Pro Tip: Worried about damaging your hair? Try clip-in or tape-in extensions to add a splash of colour without the major commitment.

Curtain Bangs

Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, Selena Gomez, Beyonce and each and every member of Kardashian/Jenner clan are just a handful of the celebs that have rocked curtain bangs this year already!

Cut in a crescent moon shape to keep length at the temples, the fringe is generally left on the longer side. But it’s not necessarily the cut that’s important; rather it’s how you style them. Blow-dry your bangs back and forth

to eliminate any unwanted part, then just split where desired and sweep to either side of the face. It’s a simple and effortless look that really pops when the rest of the hair is tied up in a pony or top knot.

I don’t often recommend trying out a fringe in the summertime, as a heavy fringe can lead to breakouts on the forehead from the heat and humidity. But this look is swept off the face, so it’ll keep you and your skin in the clear.

Wet Look

The wet look has been on trend for some time now and you’re probably thinking: “What? Again?” Let me tell you, 2018 is all about texture and that means taking that immaculately combed, stuck-to-your-head, slicked back hair and Shaking. It. Up!

The 2018 Spring/Summer runways were littered with tousled (and classic) wet looks, popping up in shows by The Blonds, Markus Lupfer and Alexander McQueen, to name a few. Given the drastic weather changes in Canada, a wet look in winter is probably not ideal—so summer is the season to give this look a go!

Get the look:
No longer gelled down like a helmet, it’s time to let your natural hair be loose and free. Once towel dried, saturate your hair in a sea salt spray, style as desired and let air dry. As you go on about your day and it starts to naturally dry, toss your head upside down and side to side to just loosely shake it out. If it starts to go frizzy, lightly mist with a hair oil or a little more sea salt spray and scrunch. If your hair is on the thicker side, you may need to move into gels and pomades.

The key is to try and trap the moisture inside your strands to keep it looking wet all day long. This new twist on the classic wet look will be much easier to achieve and maintain throughout the day, especially when at the beach or poolside.

Super Short Pixie

You can thank Moschino for this ultra-chic haircut! Designer Jeremy Scott sent
models down the runway at the 2018 Spring/Summer Moschino show sporting 90s supermodel-inspired pixie cuts—like the one Linda Evangelista used to rock back in the day. This look will be the highlight of the summer for those brave enough to rock the short do!Tapered at the nape of the neck, and tousled on top, the pixie cut has been around for a few seasons, often softer and flat. But it’s the added texture and retro volume on top that can separate this new pixie from the season before.

Pro Tip: Not a volume lover? Try getting your texture from choppy micro-bangs. The uneven, choppy texture is a simple yet strong statement if you’re looking for something new.
