DIY Skin Care With Items Straight From Your Pantry

Making your own beauty products is easier than you think. With a bit of know-how and a pantry full of everyday items, you can make your own face creams, scrubs and even do a full DIY facial for a fraction of the cost you’d pay at a spa. Author Julie Gabriel literally wrote the book on the subject titled The Green Beauty Guide and also published a follow-up Holistic Beauty from the Inside Out.  Both are comprehensive guides to hand-made skin and body care. Gabriel says homemade beauty is within reach for anybody who can use a wooden spoon: “If you can cook a custard, you can make your own skincare.”

Getting started is easy, says Gabriel:  “All you need to make a cream is: a natural, preferably organic, oil; some beeswax and water. Most likely, you already have all the ingredients you need for simple face masks, exfoliating creams and cleansers.” There are limits to what you can do yourself, Gabriel cautions. “It depends on what you want from your facial. If you want more complex treatments such as microdermabrasion or AHA peel, then these should be done by a licensed esthetician.”
