How to Keep Children Entertained at Your Wedding

You’ve heard so much about these beautiful invitations that you can hardly wait to see them for yourself.

It’s arrived. You excitedly remove it from its envelope, unfold its delicate lace paper and you begin to read….

Mr. John Smith and Ms. Jane Doe request your presence as they celebrate the next steps of their journey together. Although, they kindly ask that you pay your nanny extra for the night because your children are not invited.

You’re completely hurt, and out the $200 you just spent on your daughter’s little princess gown and adorable shoes to match.

That certainly is one way to watch a friendship sink like the Titanic.

Look, I get it. Heck, I’ve seen it. Kids run around, play a game or two of Jenga with the champagne flutes on the table, they may even drop the cake on the bride – let’s say this one happens only in the movies, if that helps ease your anxiety over inviting the precious little ones.

Here’s the thing. Whatever seemingly catastrophic things the kids do to make your wedding less “picture perfect”, are actually the very caught on tape moments you’ll remember more than the pattern on your table linens or colour of your flowers.

Here’s a quick few tips to kid friendly your joyous occasion, and keep your friendships in A+ status.

Arrange for your decorator to set a kids table with activities, puzzles and games, maybe even their very own fun to eat centrepieces. This is a great way to keep the kids entertained.

Hire a babysitter. You get to enjoy having your friends at your wedding and they get to enjoy some adult time.

Set up a movie tent (I’m not one to kiss and tell but I may have watched Moana in there once, for a few minutes). This is a perfect way to get the kids changed into their pjs and relaxed for the evening before heading home. If asked nicely, the venue may even prepare popcorn for the kids – I mean c’mon, who watches a movie without popcorn?

So, whataya say… With a little thought and planning, you’ll see that having kids at your wedding will be something you’ll wish you had agreed upon sooner.

So get the popcorn, hire the babysitter and enjoy the beautiful night- this time as a family!
