Best Makeup And Skin Care Tips You Need To Know

BE BOLD

As we say goodbye to summer, our sun-kissed skin tones begin to fade, leaving us all to revel in the beauty of our natural complexions. Seize this opportunity to make a statement with a punch of deep, rich autumn colour on your lips. Bite Beauty has created an impressive line of “Amuse Bouche” lipsticks with deep sexy shades to suit any skin tone for the fall season. A few of my personal favourites are Whisky, Tannin and Liquorice.

Fun Fact:

Lipstick wearers consume—actually eat!—on average about two lipsticks per year! Crazy right? Bite Beauty’s extraordinary Canadian-made lipsticks are made with 12 edible oils for optimal hydration and ultra-creamy texture. With a fresh blend of mint and the extracts of fresh pressed grapefruit, lemon, lime, tangelo and mandarin, you can feel good about your unwitting lipstick snacking. These lipsticks also have antioxidant benefits and are free from parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

TWO-TONED LIPS

I’m not referring to that popular early 90s fad—dark lip pencil surrounding nude lipstick—I’m talking about coupling two lipsticks from the same colour family. In just four simple steps, you can create the illusion of a more voluminous pout.

  1. Coat your lips with the lighter or brighter of the two lipstick shades as usual.
  2. Blot lips with a tissue.
  3. Dab some of the darker lipstick onto the inner part of your lower lip.
  4. Press lips together to transfer colour to the upper lip.

CONTRAST

If your skin tone is dark, applying a liquid luminizer to the high points of your face will add dimension. Couple this with deep red or rich burgundy lipstick to create a sophisticated contrast between lips and skin.

For lighter skin tones, make a statement with your eyes by using a liquid liner on the upper lash line, while omitting the eyeshadow and blush. This will produce a sharp elegance when paired with an inky tone of lipstick.

My most exciting, recent makeup discovery is the multi-use and staying power of the “Infallible Paints” collection of liquid liners by L’Oreal. These liners are user-friendly, and they DO NOT smudge when applied in the waterline of the eye, nor do they transfer colour from lid to lid. Ahhhh-mazing!

BREAKING DOWN THE “SMOKY EYE”

Think of your makeup as a balancing act. It’s all about symmetry, and smoky eye makeup is no exception. When creating your smoky eye, look at your face as a whole and not just the eyes.

  • If your eyes are closely set, you’ll want to add shadow to the outer eye.
  • Far set eyes will fare well with all around eye pencil and/or shadow.
  • If your eyes are positioned high upon your face, try focusing on building your eye shadow under your lower lashes. This will make the eyes appear lower set than they actually are.

MINIMALISM MEANS MORE MOISTURE

One of the freshest looking trends for the fall is flawless minimalism. Having your best possible skin is key to achieving this look and, to do so, you must keep up with your exfoliating regimen, and be sure to cleanse and moisturize your face every evening. Applying your moisturizer while your face is still damp from cleansing will aid in locking in that moisture before it has the chance to evaporate. By adding only the basic makeup essentials (groomed brows, concealer, light foundation, mascara, lip conditioner or gloss), you’ll be right on trend by showcasing the natural beauty of your skin.

Pro tip:

Symmetry is key! Take a step back and check your work frequently from a few feet away (whether applying liquid liner, smoky eye shadow, statement lips or luminizer) to ensure that your makeup looks great both far away and closeup.
