Here Is What You Need To Know Before Exercising

Exercising on a daily basis is so important.

Over the past few years I noticed that I began to put on weight. Whether it was from eating unhealthy or being stressed, the reasoning and contributors were endless. I felt uncomfortable in my body and I needed a change. When summer rolled around and my “summer body” was nowhere in sight, I decided it was time for me to eat healthy again and to get back into shape. I finally had my motivation and I was ready to run with it – literally.

Months later I’m still new to the exercise world and while I am no Jillian Michaels here are my thoughts on what you need to know before exercising.

Things You Need To Know Before Exercising

Make sure you’re doing it for yourself

If you are determined to lose weight, make sure you are doing it for yourself and nobody else. Don’t rely on others to be your motivation as things in life change and people change along with it and the only definite consistency in life is you.

Realize it wont happen overnight

Wouldn’t it be perfect if we worked out for a day and the next morning we woke up 10 pounds thinner than the day before? Unfortunately that’s not the reality. Losing weight takes time and a lot of consistency. A healthy weight loss goal would be 1-2 pounds per week. I know this sounds small but over time those pounds add up and every week you are closer to your overall goal!

Pick an exercise you enjoy doing

If you hate running, then don’t run. It’s as simple as that. Not all exercises belong on the treadmill. Did you love soccer as a kid? If so then join an adult soccer league. You don’t have to hate the weight loss process, so go out and have fun while burning off those extra pounds.

Remember this is a lifestyle, not a quick fix

Make sure you realize this is a long term process. When you do finally reach your goal, don’t stop what you’re doing just because you got there. In order to stay where you are, you need consistency. If you go back to old habits you will gain the weight back quicker, which is not a good thing.

Find what works for you and what you enjoy and stick with it because you’re in the for the long haul.

Get active. Live longer.
