The real Tony Clifton made all sorts of appearances at TIFF 2017, alongside Jim Carrey for the launch of Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond – The Story of Jim Carrey & Andy Kaufman (With a Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton).
In the documentary, Carrey acts as both Clifton and the late Andy Kaufman. It was Kaufman who met Clifton in a sketchy Las Vegas Lounge 48 years ago.
Interestingly enough, there are some fans who actually believe that Kaufman faked his death back in 1984 and disguised himself as Clifton. But that’s not true.
And at TIFF 2017 there were lots of people who claimed that Jim Carrey was photographed on the Red Carpet with a “Tony Clifton impersonator.” But it was the real Clifton with Carrey at this year’s film festival.
He was also photographed with all sorts of notable celebrities, like Nic Cage, Gary Oldman, Idris Elba, Willem Dafoe, Octavia Spencer, Bill Pullman, Sarah Silverman, and Judy Greer, to name a handful.
“I’m the one and only, real Tony Clifton,” he told the media this weekend while with his girlfriend, Tiara Tae, a legal sex worker at the world famous Moonlight Bunny Ranch in Carson City, Nevada.
“Look up my numerous appearances on David Letterman back in the 1980’s and you’ll see it’s me. Andy Kaufman used to do an impression of me, and Universal Studios hired me to teach Jim Carrey how to play me for the Milos Forman film, Man On The Moon. But the bottom line is “everyone wants to be me, and every woman wants to be with me,” he adds.
