Brazilian Landscapes Inspire Beaufille’s Spring Collection

Toronto design duo creates elegant and breezy couture quality garments at accessible price points

Sisters Chloé and Parris Gordon launched Beaufille in 2013, a woman’s ready-to-wear fashion and accessory brand that earned instant accolades in the fashion world in Canada and abroad. Known for its minimalism, elegant lines, contrasting textures and subtle design details, Beaufille is currently nominated for the Women’s Wear Designer of the Year from the Canadian Art and Fashion Awards.

You could say design is in their bones.

“Our mother is a fine artist who has a love affair with fashion and decoration,” says Chloé. “We grew up essentially in her art work—over our lives she has hand-painted and decorated every wall, floor, ceiling and stair of our family home. Her love affair with fashion would bring us to our local luxury department store—Holt Renfrew—in our strollers on a weekly basis. Without a doubt, this has subconsciously instilled in us a fascination with art, design and fashion.”

The sisters graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and both went on to earn Bachelors Degrees in Fine Art. Not long after graduation, they launched their fashion brand, wanting to offer well-made clothing with distinct design details and high quality at an accessible price.

The starting point for their spring/summer 2017 collection came from Brazilian landscape artist, Robert Burle Marx. The soothing colours and playful emotions of his modernist garden landscapes inspired the organic lines of Beaufille’s breezy pieces. You’ll see it expressed in the subtle movement of wavy hems, fluted tailoring, circular flouncing around necklines, armholes, and hems—all of which are designed to evoke the unpredictability of nature and the movement of water and shorelines.

The collection inspires movement, is elegant and wearable. In the words of the designers: this summer, Beaufille’s effortlessly chic tomboy is having fun.
