Beauty mistakes, everyone makes them once in a while. Life is busy and sometimes, it can be easy to forgo a daily beauty routine and replace it with a cup of coffee and a high pony tail. However, there are a few things that you shouldn’t be cutting out of your daily routine. Take care of yourself by avoiding these beauty mistakes you may be making.
Beauty Mistakes To Avoid
Having dry, dull skin is never flattering, especially when it comes time to apply your makeup. Applying foundations, concealers and powders on top of dry skin will leave you skin looking flaky and unhealthy. Exfoliate 2-3 times a week for best results.
Make sure you moisturize daily, especially after you exfoliate. Doing so will not only add moisture to your skin, but will give you a healthy glow and even prevent wrinkles!
Taking Too Long in the Shower
Spending too long in the shower may seem like a good idea, ensuring you remove all the dirt and oils from your skin, although that’s not always the case. Spending too long in the shower, especially with hot water can seriously dry out your skin. Although there is no defined recommended time to spend in the shower, make sure you’re not just standing around basking in the warm water. Do your thing and get out.
There are so many reasons to floss daily, yet many of us tend to skip this step. Not only does flossing help prevent gum disease, but it can also prevent from food sticking between your teeth and turning them yellow. If you want that pearly white smile, you’ll need to put in the work.
Not Getting Enough Sleep
We all know how important sleep is but many of us seem to neglect it. It’s true, we do need our beauty sleep to look our best. Not getting enough sleep can dull the skin, add dark circles under the eyes and make us appear lifeless. Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night, no matter what your crazy schedule is saying.
Brushing Your Hair When It’s Wet
This is a definite hair don’t, that even I’m guilty of myself! The truth is that when our hair is wet, it is in our most fragile state. Brushing your hair when wet can lead to ripping out your hair and breakage through strands. Wait until your hair is at least mostly dry to bring a brush through it.
Not Eating Right
When we don’t eat right it not only shows in our waistline, but it shows in our skin. Not eating properly can lead to certain skin conditions such as acne, eczema and more. Not eating properly is one of the more common beauty mistakes, and can be easily avoided by making better choices.
Not Drinking Enough Water
Water is essential or flushing out all of the toxins we harvest in our bodies. It is recommended to drink eight glasses of water a day. Doing so will not only help moisturize your skin, but can help you lose those extra pounds.
Not Buying New Makeup
Face it, makeup expires. I know, it’s difficult to hear. Despite some of the expensive price tags, makeup does expire and not changing it out can lead to bacteria harvesting on your face.
Not Washing My Makeup Brushes
Not washing your makeup brushes is also a bacteria issue that we seem to ignore. Since our makeup brushes are on our face daily, collecting dirt and oils it is essential to clean your brushes. Cleaning your makeup brushes is so important to overall hygiene and performance of the brush.
Sleeping With Makeup On
I know you’ve heard it time and time again, but sleeping with your makeup on is a serious no-no! Sleeping with makeup on blocks your pores, causing oil build-up and acne. Not only is acne an issue to worry about, but sleeping with mascara and eyeliner on can lead to some serious eye diseases, infections and irritations. Make sure to spend the extra couple minutes washing your face before you hit the hay.
Not Priming Before Makeup
When you paint your walls, priming them before hand is just as important as the colour as it effects the overall look in the end. With makeup, priming your face is no different. Without primers your makeup will not only not go on as smoothly, but won’t last as long. Adding primer not only cuts down application time but adds to your wear time.
Washing Your Hair Too Frequently
Washing your hair often may seem like a good idea, but really it is stripping our hair of natural oils that we need to keep our hair and scalp healthy. Try to wash your hair only 2-3 times a week. But make sure you still shower daily.
You’re Not Using SPF
SPF isn’t just for when you’re basking in the sun, in fact, you should be wearing SPF daily and all year round. Sun damage is not something to play with and you should be avoiding it at all costs. By adding SPF you prevent yourself from not only wrinkles but serious stuff like skin cancer. Add the SPF. It’ll be worth it, I promise.
Your Makeup Doesn’t Match The Season
We all have that specific foundation or lipstick we love, but the reality is it may not match the season. Of course there are the trends for what colours to wear during what season but that’s not what I’m talking about. Certain makeup and finishes just don’t mesh well with weather changes. Sometimes your favourite dewy foundation can make you look oily in the summer heat, or your favourite matte is too drying for those cold weather days. Ensure you’re paying attention to what’s going to work for you dependant on the weather!
Whether you knew you were making these beauty mistakes or not, hopefully changing around your routine with these tips will bring you even closer to your beauty goals.
